TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL? NO!
Updated: Oct 5

Happy Fall, Neighbors!
As you may have heard, PSD is planning to close down the last three remaining mountain schools in the district. This will leave the entirety of Larimer County's mountainous regions with ZERO schools. These elementary schools are historical bedrocks of our mountain communities. Livermore Elementary was established in 1871, Red Feather Elementary was established in 1896, and Stove Prairie—which is the oldest operational one-room school in all of Colorado—was established in 1896. This new "plan" means that kids 5-11 years old will be expected to commute 2-2.5 hours a day to and from Laporte for an education. Not only will this impact the adorable littles in our neighborhood, but it could also have a negative impact on everyone's property values.
As such, the CMRA board thought it was important to share the following information from a Livermore community member. You can find the original post in the Livermore & RFL community group here on facebook. "A community-led Facebook group has been created for families, neighbors, alumni, staff, property owners, and everyone who cares about the future of Livermore, Red Feather Lakes, and Stove Prairie Elementary Schools.
With all three mountain schools recommended for closure, this group is a place for our communities to come together, share accurate information, organize, support one another, and make sure the voices of our children, families, and mountain communities are heard before the Board of Education vote.
This is about more than school buildings. It is about keeping accessible education in our mountain communities, protecting our youngest children from extremely long bus rides into town, supporting families facing added travel and financial strain, and preserving the schools that have long been the heart of our communities.
Even if you do not currently have children in these schools—or your children are grown, homeschooled, attend another school, or will never attend—you still have a stake in this decision.
Schools help sustain rural communities. They help make an area attractive to families, support local connection and community events, and are part of what makes mountain living viable for the next generation. Losing every mountain elementary school could affect the long-term desirability, stability, and value of our mountain communities and homes.
Please help us save our schools by doing the following simple steps:
Join our community meeting at the Livermore Community Hall on October 10th at 1:00 pm to help make a plan(s) to stop this from happening.
Please invite neighbors, family members, former students, staff, local business owners, and anyone who cares about the future of our mountain communities. Every voice matters."
